In a ceremony held yesterday in the atrium of the Bishop Library, former US Representative Charlie Dent (R-15) was presented with Lebanon Valley College’s Founders Medal.

“Charlie Dent models what we teach our students—be informed, flexible, and open-minded, to make the best decisions for the greater good, ” said LVC President Dr. Lewis E. Thayne.

“He has done so much for Pennsylvania and the United State, and we are honored to call him a friend of the college.”

The Founders Medal recognizes individuals whose leadership enhances the lives of those in Central Pennsylvania, as the college’s own founders did.

Following the ceremony, Dent met with students and faculty and spoke to politics classes on “Presidential Power and Congress: Checks and Balances in a Time of Divided Government.”

Previous recipients of the Founders Medal include Pennsylvania Governors Thomas W. Corbett LVC ’71 and Edward G. Rendell; philanthropists Frank Dixon, Jeanne Donlevy Arnold LVC H’10, and William Lehr, Esq.; and Major General Jessica L. Wright.

The original version of this post briefly misstated Dent’s party as Democrat. We regret the error (thanks to Paul Fogle for pointing it out on Facebook).
