If you’re something of a history buff and want to learn a thing or two about the Revolutionary War, then you may want to take trip to the Cornwall Iron Furnace this weekend.

On Saturday June 15, Revolutionary War reenactor Stephen Bradney will be in costume at the Cornwall Iron Furnace and offering information about Flying Camp of Lancaster County, one of the initial mobile strategic reserves of troops authorized by the Continental Congress in March 1776.

Wondering what the Flying Camp did? According to an 1883 history, the Flying Camp of Lancaster participated in the Battle of Long Island and the subsequent retreat from New York before returning to guard prisoners in Lancaster and Lebanon County, at places like Lebanon’s Tabor Church and the Hebron Moravian Church.

In addition to being in costume, Bradney will also be setting up a small military camp, including a coehorn mortar.

Cornwall Iron Furnace produced cannonballs during the Revolutionary War, making it a fitting venue for Bradney’s presentation.

Tours of the iron furnace will be going on during that day as well.

While Bradney’s Revolutionary War presentation will be free and open to the public, paid admission will be required for the tours.

For more information visit the Cornwall Iron Furnace website or call 717-272-9711 .
