With another school year on the books, students and seniors of Cedar Crest High School (CCHS) in the Cornwall-Lebanon School District have been recognized for their achievements.

A selection of exceptional achievers and their accomplishments is detailed below. (Watch for additional posts soon on more of this year’s exceptional achievements from other Lebanon County school districts.)

The Falcon Impact Award, this year presented to Alexis Steele-Hackenberg, for her dedication to tutoring throughout her Cedar Crest career. Steele-Hackenberg sometimes stayed after school 4 times a week to tutor fellow students.

Katrina N. Miller of the Career & Technology Center (CTC) was named the Falcon Booster Club Top CTC Student in recognition of academic excellence and her leadership roles. Miller is also a National Technical Honor Society and SkillsUSA member.

The $5,000 Moyer-Longacre Scholarship, awarded to students pursuing a career in education and related fields, was given to 5 students: Jake N. Barrett, Logan J. Horn, Lily A. Nissley, Hannah C. Shirey, and Alexa M. Troain. “You will all be phenomenal teachers, counselors, coaches, and administrators some day,” said CCHS principal Dr. Nicole Malinoski.

The National Merit Scholarship Commended Students, who are recognized for and Aidan B. Hanley, and Jackson S. Muraika, as well as LebTown’s own Emily C. Bixler. As a junior, Viraj N. Govani was recognized as a Commended Student. This year, he has progressed to being a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. Govani will be attending Cornell University in the fall.

Hannah Shirey, as Cedar Crest’s Student of the Year, was recognized for her strength of character, leadership positions throughout a variety of school contexts, and extensive volunteer work. Said Malinoski of Shirey, “She has not only changed our school, but she will change our world, through her community service or her work as a future educator.”

The Horatio Alger Scholarship, a prestigious and generous award of $10,000, was given to ‘Pennsylvania Scholar’ Hajra Sohail, for “exemplifying the American tradition of overcoming adversity and achieving success through hard work, determination, integrity, and perseverance.”

Eight CCHS students were selected for the Lena Naftzinger Awards, which recognize achievement, quiet leadership, perseverance, and exceptional service within the student body. For Achievement: Stephen J. Fessler and Aidan B. Hanley; Quiet Leaders: Rachel M. Batra and Gabriel E. Tobias; for Perseverance: Dalton J. Oellig and Priya R. Singh-Bhullar; and for Exceptional Service: Serena Cheng and Viraj Govani. Cheng will be attending Yale University in the fall.
