Motorists heading into Campbelltown from Hershey on Route 322 may have noticed a recently completed mural on the side of A&M Pizza, 2900 Horseshoe Pike.
Commissioned by A&M owner David Warner Jr., it was painted by Lebanon mural artist Katie Trainer from a design created by Warner’s spouse, Kristine.
Warner purchased A&M, a staple in Campbelltown’s business district, in March 2019.
“I had followed Katie on Facebook. I think public art is important. It creates a sense of community and instilled pride in the community,” Warner said, “I wanted to improve the property and be a good neighbor to the community.”

The design, which features what Trainer calls a “sun pizza,” also serves as a welcome sign for Campbelltown.
“Our building is an unofficial gateway to Campbelltown,” Warner said.
Trainer, a Cedar Crest grad, said the process to create the mural began last year with some initial discussions with Warner about the project. The design was finalized and then Trainer gathered materials. Work began on the mural on July 6. She used a roofing buggy to access to the building’s second story, which served as her canvas.
She said the brick wall is in good shape, so all she needed to do to prep the area was go over it with a wire brush and then apply a primer. Trainer projected the image of the design of the wall and then sketched it on the wall. It was painted using a special thick bodied U.V.-resistant acrylic paint. After it dried, a clear coat was applied the following day.
Trainer has posted a time lapse video of painting the mural on YouTube.
“Murals are something that people walk by or drive by every day,” Trainer said. “You have an opportunity to impact their life through public art such as murals.”

Trainer also completed a mural at the Columbia office of Family First Health on July 16. She previously created a mural for the dental practice’s Lebanon office.
