The caller kept her on the phone for four hours, obtained all of her personal information and accessed her computer remotely, claiming that he corrected the “problems.” The caller then told the woman to go to a Western Union wire transfer location and wire him $2,250 for the “repairs” he made to her system. When the woman told him she did not know how to do that, he told her to instead go to Walmart and purchase (four) $500 gift cards and (one) $200 gift card, then call and provide him with the numbers on the cards. The caller stated he would deduct $50.00 from his $2,250 fee for the gas the woman would use in running to Walmart. When the woman went to the Lebanon Walmart to purchase the gift cards, a store associate, concerned that she was being scammed, questioned her about purchasing the cards and returned her money. The Walmart employee prevented the woman from losing $2,200.

Vehicle Accident – On Aug. 6, 2020 at 8:13 a.m., this crash occurred on I 81 South at mile marker 47.7. Unit 1, a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, driven by Operator 1, a 30 year old Bridgeport, CT man, was traveling in the right lane towing a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. The Trailing Unit began to swerve, causing Unit 1 to lose control and strike the guide rail on the west side of the southbound lanes. Unit 1 and its Trailing Unit spun together and struck the guide rail again, which caused the Trailing Unit to disconnect. The Trailing Unit spun around and struck the guide rail again before coming to final rest. The Trailing Unit sustained disabling damage which required towing. Unit 1 was driven from the scene. No injuries were reported.

Vehicle Accident – On Aug. 7, 2020 at 7:51 p.m., this crash occurred as Unit 1, a 2018 Ford F-150XLT, driven by Operator 1, a 29 year old Kennesaw, GA man, was traveling south on I 81. At the time of this crash, it was raining and the roadway was wet. Unit 1 was traveling in the left lane behind another vehicle. The vehicle in front of Unit 1 suddenly used its brakes due to a backlog of traffic on I 81 South from a previous crash. Unit 1 subsequently used its brakes. Unit 1 then lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. Unit 1 continued traveling south in a grassy area to the left of the roadway before striking a grassy embankment on its driver’s side frontal portion. Unit 1 came to final rest in the grassy area on the left side of the roadway, facing north. Unit 1 sustained disabling impact damage to its driver’s side front tire. Unit 1 was towed from the scene by Mars Towing. Operator 1 did not sustain any injuries.

Vehicle Accident – On Aug. 7, 2020 at 3:45 p.m., this crash occurred as Unit 1, a 2018 International Harvester LT625, driven by Operator 1, a 32 year old Hanover man, and Unit 2, a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia, driven by Operator 2, a 59 year old McDonough, GA man, traveled south on I 81. Both Unit 1 and Unit 2 were in the right lane nearing mile marker 84. Unit 1 was behind Unit 2. As Unit 2 crested a small uphill grade, Operator 2 noticed that traffic was stopped (due to crash PA2020-1095096). At this point, Operator 2 took evasive actions and swerved into the left lane. Due to heavy rains and standing water on the roadways, Unit 2 began to jackknife. Unit 2’s trailer was across both lanes. Operator 1 applied the brakes to Unit 1, but, due to the heavy rain and standing water, Unit 1 was unable to stop in time. Unit 1 rear-ended Unit 2. It impacted Unit 2’s trailer on the left driver’s side of the vehicle with its front end. Unit 1 suffered major contact damage to its front end and was not drivable. Unit 2 suffered minor contact damage to its trailer. Unit 2 was able to be driven from the scene. After the collision, Unit 1 came to final rest with the power unit on the right shoulder and the trailer blocking the right lane. Unit 2 came to final rest on the left shoulder/grass median. This portion of I 81 South has a small uphill grade which limits one’s line of sight. This coupled with heavy rains which exacerbated the visibility issue and standing water on the roadway which impacted their stopping ability and made driving conditions treacherous. Operator 1 suffered an injury to his right knee; he later refused treatment. Operator 2 was not injured. Unit 1 was towed by Motter’s Towing.
