As LebTown’s audience has grown, it has gotten more difficult to maintain a civil discussion in the comments of posts on our Facebook page.

LebTown takes a light hand regarding community management, focusing active moderation on hate speech and threats of violence.

Today we are expanding our moderation efforts to encompass the threatened or actual posting of other people’s private information without their consent.

LebTown’s new Private Information Policy is modeled after Twitter’s. Here are the important points to keep in mind.

  • Doxxing is a breach of privacy. We want to protect individuals who could come to physical harm as a result of their information being shared.
  • Consent matters. There are times when you may want your information being shared – e.g., your phone number or personal email being shared for an event you’re helping to organize. These are exceptions to the policy.
  • Intent matters. At the end of the day, LebTown’s comments exist to let readers discuss issues and work towards the goal of bettering our community. This goal will be kept in mind when assessing specific incidents that arise in the comments.

We will be refining this policy in the weeks and months to come. In the meantime, we welcome feedback on this and other LebTown policies, and can be reached using the contact form below.
