If you haven’t made your grocery run for milk, eggs, and bread yet, you might want to take a break and do that first.
The snow is coming, and although not a flake has fallen yet, local municipalities and school districts are already taking steps to prepare for the expected accumulation.
Lebanon County Weather reports that up to 18 inches are forecasted here, with a high confidence level that we will see at least a foot even if the worst of it doesn’t come to pass.
Lebanon County Weather also notes that our region is expected to lie close to an intense band of frontogenesis, an area between two air masses, where “puking snow” is expected at rates in excess of 2-3 inches per hour. If Lebanon County were to end up in this band, 18+ inches of snow would be likely.
Justin Snyder of Lebanon County Weather told LebTown that he expects folks will be able to safely go about their business again on public roads, without special snow tires or vehicles, sometime around Thursday mid to late morning, although blowing and drifting may still be an issue as the storm pulls away.
County offices will close at noon today and will be closed on Thursday.
Myerstown Borough and the City of Lebanon have both announced snow emergencies for later today, with Myerstown’s starting at 9 a.m. and Lebanon’s beginning at 2 p.m.
During snow emergencies, residents must move vehicles from designated snow emergency routes. (See below for list of these routes in Myerstown and Lebanon. If you have information we should add to this list, please email us at news@lebtown.com.)
While the snow emergency is in effect, all metered City of Lebanon parking lots will be open and free to the public.
Myerstown Borough also announced some parking changes. No parking will be allowed in the lot on the east side of College Street, just north of Main Avenue, located at 57 West Main Avenue, and no parking will be allowed in the lot on the west side of South Locust Street from Main Avenue to Madison Alley until snow has been cleared. The borough noted that parking is allowed at all times in the lot located at 6-8 East Main Avenue and in the swimming pool lot located at the southwest corner of West Center Avenue and South Railroad Street.
County school districts, with the exception of Lebanon School District, will be operating virtually today or dismissing students early. No district has officially announced closure for Thursday as of yet.
