Gretna Music opens its fourth Gretna Music For Kids season on Saturday, July 3, with master storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston performing with two Philadelphia Orchestra members.
The season continues Saturday, July 31, with a performance by a trio of young innovative educators, Empire Wild. The season concludes Saturday, Aug. 14, with 15-year-old banjo player, Nora Brown.
All performances will be held at the Mount Gretna Playhouse, 200 Pennsylvania Ave., Mount Gretna.

Alston, an internationally acclaimed storyteller, narrator and librettist, will tell the musical stories of Hansel & Gretel, The Bremen Town Musicians and more. This is her 27th year hosting the Philadelphia Orchestra’s preschool concerts and her 30th year as host and narrator of the Family and School concerts. She will be joined by violinist Juliette Kang and cellist Pricilla Lee. More information at charlotteblakealston.com.
Empire Wild consists of young musicians Mitch, Ken and Brandon, who formed the group at Julliard as a vehicle for musical exploration and hope to get kids excited about classical music. Their performance will be an interactive introduction to their instruments, cello and vocals, and the production of unique sounds. More info at empirewild.com.
Brown is an up-and-coming banjo player extraordinaire who has been featured on TedTalk and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts. She also was the subject of a Tribeca Film Festival-funded documentary, “Little Nora (The Banjo Player),” and she will share her love of bluegrass music with her audience. Gretna Music is a Lebanon County summer performance series that brings world-class musicians and artists who otherwise may not travel to Central Pennsylvania to the open-air, pavilion-style Mount Gretna Playhouse. Since its founding, more than 250,000 people have attended over 1,000 main-stage concerts by more than 2,000 artists.
