Weather permitting, PennDOT will close a half mile section of Route 419 (Schaeffer Road) on the east side of Cornwall on Tuesday morning, Aug. 10, while it conducts three days of flood control work.

The road will be closed to through traffic between Cherry Avenue and Willow Street while a 60-inch pipe and headwalls are installed. A headwall is a small retaining wall placed at the inlet or outlet of a stormwater pipe.

PennDOT spokesman Dave Thompson said the road is expected to remain open to local traffic.

During the project, which is expected to start at 7 a.m. Tuesday and be completed by 5 p.m. Thursday, a detour will be in effect using Cornwall Road, Rocherty Road, Evergreen Road, and State Drive.

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional Twitter alerts accessible on the 511PA website.
