Jonestown Bank & Trust Co. has made a sizable donation to help provide affordable housing in the Lebanon area.
Community Homes of Lebanon County is spearheading a capital campaign to add another 23-unit module to its existing 289 units in eight locations in the county.
In support of that campaign, Jonestown Bank & Trust Co. is contributing $100,000, the largest single donation in the independent community bank’s 148-year history.
Safe affordable housing is the keystone for the area’s seniors, ambulatory disabled and others in need, according to a Community Homes press release.
The demand for such housing continues to grow, as evidenced by a waiting list that exceeds five years, the statement says, and the need for community support has resulted in this project, with phase one completion, the first eight units, slated for late 2022.

“We are making excellent progress toward achieving this goal, and the commitment of JBT is a strong show of support for this critical need in our community,” Community Homes board chairman Glenn Wenger said in a statement. “We thank them!”
JBT president and CEO Troy A. Peters presented the $100,000 check to Community Homes CEO Charlie Rush at a recent meeting of the Community Homes shareholders.
“Affordable housing is such a critical need in our community, especially among older adults, low-income families and ambulatory members,” Peters, who also serves as co-chair of the campaign fundraising committee, said in the press release.
“The Canal Affordable Housing Development is an important step in meeting that need,” Peters said. “To play a role in providing a home — a quality, safe, truly affordable home — that will improve people’s lives in a very real way is something JBT is excited about. And we encourage others to join us because the need is great.”
Rush added, “We have also applied for assistance from the Federal Home Loan Bank, and the Lebanon County Commissioners recently voted approval of a $500,000 interest-free loan for the project.”
