The Girls on the Run fall season will kick off on Sept. 13 and will culminate in a 5K on Nov. 6 at Millersville University for the girls and a running buddy.

GotR’s chief aim is to support girls in third through eighth grades and assist them in meeting their social, physical, and emotional needs.

Through the use of curriculum that incorporates running and fun, girls are inspired to achieve their dreams and access their full potential. According to a press release, the GotR programming “empowers girls to: nurture their physical and emotional health; find strength in their connectedness, and build confidence and resiliency.”

These skills have been especially important over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. Modifications have been made to the program in order to ensure the safety and well-being of participants and coaches. In the event of unexpected closures, GotR has developed a plan to transition participants from the in-person program to a virtual one.

Some of the other safety modifications instituted this season will be: a modified program to allow for social distancing, individual bags for each girls to store her materials during the season, and alternate sites to meet in small groups such as schools, parks, or churches.

Additionally, according to the press release, coaches will be provided with the appropriate training, support and resources to deliver both the in-person and virtual plan.
