A 412,000-square-foot distribution center being built in North Lebanon Township is scheduled to be completed early next year.
That’s the latest update from Greg Boler, a partner with the logistics group of Transwestern Development Co., which is responsible for the project.
Boler told LebTown that Walmart, the top-ranked Fortune 500 company that will lease the warehouse, will be up and operational there in the third quarter of 2022.
Construction of the facility, off Route 72 near Heilmandale, started in February, he said, and will take about a year.
It will be accessed from Route 72 North and Heilmandale Road, via a newly installed traffic light.
LebTown previously reported that the land on which the building sits has been zoned industrial since at least the mid-1970s.

Through the distribution center, Walmart is expected to add 600 jobs, according to the Lebanon Daily News. The newspaper also noted that the massive warehouse, when going through the approval process, received both positive and negative reviews from residents and businesses.
Transwestern’s logistics group has five regional offices, Boler said; he is with the Northeast office in Whippany, New Jersey, and focuses on Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Boler listed some of the company’s other recent projects in central and eastern Pennsylvania:
- A 1 million-square-foot warehouse in Penn Township, Cumberland County, that is leased to FedEx. Next to that is a 750,000-square-foot structure built on spec that will be delivered in the third quarter of 2022, he said.
- The 500,000-square-foot Hamburg Logistics Center on the Interstate 78 corridor off the Shartlesville exit in Upper Bern Township, Berks County. Also built on spec, that will be delivered in a month, Boler said.
- The 750,000-square-foot Jessup Logistics Center, a spec project in Lackawanna County slated for completion in the first quarter of 2022. A press release noted that the center will be within a one-day drive of 30% of the country’s population, with access to numerous interstates.
“At present, Transwestern has 40 industrial projects totaling 20 million square feet under construction or in pre-development planning stages nationwide, including more than 5 million square feet in the Northeast,” Brian Banaszynski, Northeast regional partner in Transwestern Development Co.’s National Logistics Group, said in the release from earlier this year.
In addition to the distribution center that will be leased by Walmart, there are several other major industrial projects in Lebanon County.
DHL Supply Chain is constructing a 970,000-square-foot manufacturing, warehouse and distribution facility on the former Alcoa site in South Lebanon Township. It is expected to be up and running by the end of March 2022 and will create at least 200 jobs.
A second warehouse of almost 570,000 square feet will be erected later. The combined cost of both buildings is an estimated $88 million.
And the Hershey Co. is building a $178 million, 1 million-square-foot fulfillment center on Killinger Road, south of Route 472 in South Annville Township.
Larger than 17 football fields, the warehouse – which should be completed and operational by the end of 2021 – will add 270 full-time jobs within three years, a company spokesman told LebTown in April.
