7 Cuz Beer Store is moving down the street from 1740 Quentin Road in the Cedar Crest Square shopping mall to the new Quentin Crossings Mall at 1980 Quentin Road, behind and just east of Members’ First Credit Union.
The store is owned and operated by Musser’s Inc. and will be one of five tenants in the mini-strip mall that is currently being constructed by the real estate side of Musser’s Inc.
“The business (7 Cuz Beer Store) has gone really well,” said Brian Musser, owner of Musser’s Inc. “The town of Lebanon has treated us really well. That’s why we wanted to stay. We were one of the businesses that was able to stay open through COVID-19. People want different places for their beer needs. We expect the same thing at the new location. We’re there for our customers.”
Musser expects the new beer store to open by early 2022, and a search for neighboring tenants at Quentin Crossings is well underway. Currently, the construction at 1980 Quentin Road is beginning to take shape, and the physical outline of the L-shaped strip mall — which can accommodate two drive-throughs — is apparent.
“All the excavating is done,” said Musser. “We’re working on pouring the concrete. We should start laying block by next week.
“I’d say that we’re having the normal issues, but things are going well,” he added. “In our heads, we’re on a timeline. There are some challenges.”
7 Cuz Beer Store is unlike many of the places where Lebanon County residents buy beer.
It features a spacious show room, a large selection of beer and adult beverages in various quantities, sizes and amounts, and an assortment of cigars and smoking-related items. 7 Cuz Beer Store combines the old beer distributor feel with the convenience of a grocery store.
“What we have is the largest craft beer selection in Lebanon,” said Musser. “Our family grocery store business inspired us. It’s a small grocery store mentality in a beer store atmosphere. We appreciate our customers tremendously.
“The goal has always been to make women feel comfortable coming into the store. The majority of women do their family’s shopping. It’s well lit with a huge inventory. Being the nicest beer store in Lebanon is our goal. The new location will look really sharp when it’s done.”
7 Cuz Beer Store, named for seven members of the Lancaster County Musser family, opened in March 2018. The space it currently occupies is in a building right next store to, and leased from, the Quentin Road location of the Giant grocery store chain.
Two years ago, Musser’s Inc. had sold the property to Giant.
“We’re into real estate as a business,” said Musser, a 42-year-old resident of Holtwood. “We own two other strip malls, in Quarryville and Columbia. We’ve been sub-leasing off them (Giant). There was a timeframe involved. We knew they wanted to use that space at some point.
“I do not know what they (Giant) have planned for that space. The rumor that Giant was kicking us out was not true. We have a really good working relationship with Giant.”
After purchasing the business and property from the former Foodland, Musser’s Inc. operated Musser’s Grocery Store at the Cedar Crest shopping center for seven years, beginning in 2012. Musser’s Inc. sold the property to the Giant chain in late 2019.
“There’s a real estate side to things, but we also have a retail side to the business,” said Musser. “In that building (7 Cuz Beer Store’s new location), we’re kind of meshing the two sides. We always loved real estate.”
In addition to Seven Cuz, Quentin Crossings and the strip malls in Columbia and Quarryville, Musser’s Inc. also operates four retail locations, including Southern End Outdoors store in Quarryville and Genuine Tobacco stores.
“We believe in local business and the support of local businesses,” said Musser. “We think that’s what keeps our local economies rolling. Local businesses give back to the community. I hold local businesses close to my heart.”
