Editor’s Note: In 2021, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. Late one Friday morning, I had a decision to make: go for breakfast now or wait and go for lunch.

Personally, I will choose breakfast over any other meal in the day. So, off I go but the question is to where? Quite a few of our followers have suggested The Hearth in the past. Thank you for all the suggestions we received thus far, keep it up!

Located at 2550 Cumberland St. in North Cornwall, this 24-hour diner offers breakfast all day in addition to lunch and dinner options.

Offering booth and table seating as well as counter service, the inside gives off the feel of a New Jersey diner along with the droves of regulars who were continuing to come in on this busy morning.

For today’s meal, I chose the Hearth Breakfast Special ($8.50). Just like with most other diners, this meal comes with two eggs, home fries, your choice of meat, and pancakes or French toast.

Selecting the bacon and French toast, along with extra crispy home fries, I almost didn’t get a chance to order. It was unusually busy during this time, as I heard one waitress note.

French toast, topped with powdered sugar.

It was so busy that I sat in my booth for 15 minutes before my drink order was taken. I had some business work to do so it didn’t faze me, but I was about two minutes away from getting up and leaving.

As for the meal itself, it was a standard diner staple. Plentiful portion size with a good crisp on the potatoes.

The French toast was the best part of this dish. Griddled to perfection and not too doughy. I could really taste the flavor and I didn’t need to add too much syrup.

I would have liked the bacon to be crispier. I used to be a chewy bacon fan but not anymore.

Two strips of bacon sitting atop eggs and home fries.

Our take: The Hearth is an all-hours diner with standard diner breakfast menu. I like to try something different/unique when possible. The quality of the food was on point. The wait time was long. We hope that this is an anomaly, but that was a long wait.
