Police released details overnight regarding Wednesday afternoon’s fatal car crash/gun crime in Lebanon.
Lebanon city police said their involvement began around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, when officers were dispatched to North Lehman and North 6th streets for a single vehicle traffic accident, with a single 16-year-old male occupant in the driver’s seat.
Police said that an initial investigation indicated at least one person fled from the vehicle, with witnesses suggesting that the incident began with an argument between the vehicle occupants and others outside the vehicle in the vicinity of Crowell & North 6th streets.
During that argument, police said, a single gun-shot was fired into the vehicle, before the driver drove south on 6th Street at a high rate of speed, crashing into parked vehicles and ending up overturned near Arnold Street.
Lebanon police said the 16-year-old male occupant was transported to a local medical facility, where he was pronounced deceased. A single gunshot wound was also apparent in his chest. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 29.
Police said they located a single expanded casing near Crowell & North 6th streets. The handgun has not been recovered.
Investigators said they do not believe this was a random shooting and they think the meeting at Crowell & North 6th streets was pre-arranged.
Police are seeking information about the incident or those possibly involved, described as Hispanic males, both in their late teens to early 20s.
The public is asked to contact Lebanon city police at 717-272-2054 or CrimeStoppers at 717-270-9800 with any information pertaining to this incident. Tips can be made anonymously.
