The North Lebanon Township Police Department is poised to get a new chief.

Chief Harold Easter submitted his retirement to the Board of Supervisors at their Nov. 15 meeting. The retirement was effective at the beginning of November, with NLTPD Sergeant Tim Knight stepping in as the officer-in-charge.

North Lebanon Township Manager Cheri Grumbine said that the township is looking internally at the existing police workforce for a replacement.

In addition to serving for the last 16 years as NLTPD chief, at the time of his retirement Easter also headed the Lebanon County Police Chiefs (perhaps known best to the public as the entity which typically sets countywide trick-or-treat dates/rain dates).

Easter is also a Vietnam veteran. Included below is a 2013 speech he gave at the 2013 Lebanon Memorial Day Service, recorded and posted online by County Commissioner Jo Ellen Litz.

Grumbine said that it’s likely a decision on a replacement will be made by the supervisors’ December meeting.
