Editor’s Note: In 2021, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

Thanks to a few of our followers, we were alerted to a new restaurant in the Valley.

Having opened just a couple of months ago, DoGood’s Tavern is located on the corner of Main Avenue and Railroad Street in Myerstown.

Perhaps it was because this place is the new spot, but it was very busy on the night we visited. They suggest on their Facebook page to make reservations and, thankfully, we did.

There is plenty of parking alongside the building or across the street.

Formerly serving as the Buy-Rite, this freshly remodeled tavern exudes class from the second you walk in the door.

Once you walk up the ramp, the lively bar area sits to your left with several high-top tables. Front and back dining areas are on the other side.

DoGood’s has a menu posted on their Facebook page.

For tonight’s dinner, we ordered appetizers of a bowl of seafood bisque ($7) and a bucket of Dutch fries ($8).

The bisque included shrimp, scallops, and crab in a creamy sherry broth. It was hard to distinguish the different seafood flavors, but all ingredients were blended down to a hot and creamy spoonful.

The Dutch fries were not your standard basket of fries. The sliced and deep-fried potatoes came with three types of mayo dips. Nothing special to them, they were just deep-fried potatoes, but the dipping mayo offered three different flavors. One had a kick to it. It made for an easy share amongst the table.

Our first meal tonight was half rack of ribs ($19) with wild rice and a side salad. The slab was tender and falling off the bone. I chose to get mine with a bourbon BBQ sauce. The ribs were very flavorful but could have used some more sauce. It’d been a while since I had good ribs. Time to reset that clock.

Our second entrée was the whiskey chicken ($19), a hand-breaded and fried breast, Irish cream sauce, shallots, and mushrooms with a side salad and sweet (potato) mash. Two generous chicken breasts came with nice savory cream sauce. This made for a nice second meal a few days later.

Our third entrée was grilled ribeye ($27) with a baked potato and a side salad. A healthy 12-ounce portion came topped with a red chimichurri sauce and compound butter. The ribeye was grilled to our liking, flavorful, and a good hearty cut. If you are a steak fan, this one is for you.

Our fourth entrée, Mediterranean haddock ($19), was baked in white wine, shallots, capers, and dill butter. It didn’t take long for this fish to disappear. The seasoned green beans paired well with this dish.

Our take: DoGood’s Tavern makes a quality meal. They offer plenty of choices without overdoing it. You will find some unique dishes and local favorites as well. They put a lot into fixing the building up and turning it into a nice restaurant. We, as the patrons, are the beneficiary of that hard work. Food, service, atmosphere, and nice chairs to sit on … give them a call and tell them to save you a seat.

We give this place ?????.
