The ‘Historic Sites Guide Kiosk’ was placed at the site thanks to the efforts of Lynn Wenger, Diane Wenger, and Harriet Faren, with many other people and organizations assisting along the way.
The 36″ by 24″ full color map display identifies three dozen sites as well as the Route 419 Scenic Byway which passes through the village. A brief history of Schaefferstown is included as well. A QR code in the lower right hand corner offers instant access to the Historic Schaefferstown website.
The kiosk and materials were designed by Bachleda Studio in Schaefferstown. The kiosk was fabricated and installed by Horst Signs in Myerstown. The Lebanon Valley Conservancy’s Heritage Trail Guides were printed by Colortech Inc. Creative Solutions in Lebanon. The acrylic brochure holder was fabricated by Merchandising Solutions Inc in Lancaster.
Funding for the project was obtained through the county’s hotel tax fund and the Lebanon County Commissioners office. Organizers thanked Lebanon County Commissioner Jo Ellen Litz in particular for her assistance with this project, as well as the Heidelberg Township office for assisting with the required permitting. Basic map components were provided by City of Lebanon Authority & County of Lebanon GIS Department.
The lidded pocket in the front of the kiosk will be stocked with materials like the self-guided Schaefferstown Heritage Trail map, a local businesses guide, and HSI’s annual events brochure.
HSI said that a similar kiosk may be installed at the Alexander Schaeffer Farm in the future.
