With the opening of the Hershey’s Annville Fulfillment Center, the chocolate giant is making some changes that will see nearly 80 jobs cut from its current Palmyra warehouse, operated by GXO Logistics.
However, these jobs are being offset by the hundreds of new jobs offered at the Annville facility, and Hershey expect to be able to transfer all workers affected by the reduction to new roles there.
The news was first reported by BizNewsPA earlier this week after Connecticut-based logistics contractor GXO Logistics filed a layoff notice with the state to reduce its workforce from 228 permanent employees to 151 employees during a two week period that begins on Jan. 31.
In a statement to PennLive, a Hershey spokesperson said that the continued operation of the East Coast Distribution Center III in Palmyra along with the new Annville Fulfillment Center, the two locations together will create more total jobs in the community.
BizNewsPA reported that Hershey expects to employ 35 of the 270 total planned jobs at the Annville facility, with the rest filled by DHL. The Annville warehouse, located on Killinger Road near Route 422, takes up more space than 17 football fields and could support up to 500 local jobs.
