Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. This review is one of several written prior to LVFC’s partnership with LebTown, initially posted Aug. 1. Bon appétit!

This week we went out to a new-to-us restaurant in a community where, if you don’t have any business there, you probably never would drive there.

The community in question is Rexmont and the restaurant is Boyer’s Tavern.

Having heard a few nice words about it and receiving a couple of suggestions in our email box we loaded up the family truckster and made our way for dinner.

From the outside, it looks like an old tavern and has limited parking in the front with more to the side and rear.

The inside contains a bar dining room with low and high-top tables as well as a second dining room with additional tables. They also have a deck but make sure to have a reservation on a busy night for those seats.

Our meal tonight began with drinks: a Moscow mule and Yock’s Perfect Manhattan. They paired well with dinner, but what doesn’t pair well with a Manhattan?

Also included in our opening round was an appetizer we don’t usually see on the menu, toasted ravioli ($10.95), a house-made cheese ravioli fried golden brown. To keep it simple, they were amazing with the perfect crunch.

We had considered getting the potato dippers or the cheesesteak egg rolls, but we felt we chose wisely.

For our entrées we went with the grilled pork chop with coconut rice and house salad ($19.95) and a shrimp salad ($13.95).

The thick, locally sourced pork chop came with a spicy mango salsa on top that added a sweet spice to the nicely charred pork. The rice side was missing when it first came out, so this came out later. This might have been the only complaint from the evening.

Our second dish was a shrimp taco (three) that each contained four or five large shrimp on a bed of pineapple slaw with spicy ranch on top.

Whoever put the tacos together needs to put all my tacos together because at no point did those tacos fall apart and make a mess. Oh yeah, and they tasted great.

Our take: We saw a menu that ranged from salads to burgers to seafood to chicken. Some of the dishes can be pricey but from what we tasted, it’s worth the cost. The cozy atmosphere had a neighborhood feel that keeps people wanting to come back for more.

We give this place ????.
