The Lebanon County Court of Common Pleas has released documents filed by each of the 24 persons applying to fill the county commissioner post left empty by the December death of Republican William E. Ames Jr.
Pennsylvania law requires the court to pick a successor of the same party to complete Ames’ term, which expires in January 2024.
Lebanon County commissioners receive an annual salary of $73,623 and will get a cost of living index or 2% raise, whichever is less, in 2023. They also receive health insurance and can participate in the county’s defined benefit pension plan.
The court required commissioner hopefuls to complete an application form and to submit “a resume of their full educational background and work experience [and] a statement of their goals and objectives as County Commissioner if selected for appointment.” Candidates also have to undergo a criminal background check.
The applicants’ occupations and their statements of intent, where provided, are listed below. Since the law prohibits release of home addresses, their ZIP codes have been provided instead.
The court has not announced how it will decide which candidates will be interviewed, nor has it announced a timetable for appointing a new commissioner.
