Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

It feels like we haven’t done a breakfast review in a while, and it felt like it’s been a while since we visited our friends on the east end of the Valley. So, thanks to a few of our followers, we trekked down 422 and popped into Country Fare in Myerstown (or as we love to call it, Myerschteddel).

Located along Route 422 east of town, this stand-alone restaurant offers several dining rooms, counter service, and banquet rooms with plenty of parking to the rear. They also have baked goods available for sale in the front.

For our meals this morning, we chose the Dutch scrambler ($7.99), Cheesesteak omelet ($9.99), and the one egg kid’s combo ($4.50) for the little critic.

The Dutch scrambler is bacon, onions, home fries and eggs all scrambled together and served with toast. This full-plate dish was not lacking in portion size. I prefer this well done for the crispy exterior. It’s hard to do on a scramble, but they got it pretty close to my liking. It could have used more bacon. But what dish couldn’t use more bacon?

The cheesesteak omelet is three eggs with steak meat, sautéed onions, and American cheese, all topped with marinara sauce. The omelet itself had plenty of steak but most of the components were lacking in seasoning. Unfortunately, this left an overall bland taste. The marinara on top would have been better served on the side for us.

The kid’s combo included one egg any style, a meat selection (bacon or sausage) and a sweet selection (pancake or French toast). This meal allowed for our little one to vary her eating and left enough for a second breakfast for later.

Our take: Country Fare offers homemade style food for a reasonable price. The breakfast menu is not overloaded. It has most of the classic staples while incorporating a few of their own dishes. The staff was friendly, and they have plenty of room inside for lots of people. As was the case this morning, we weren’t the only ones who chose to have some country fare.
