Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

Normally on a Sunday night, we are having a big family dinner. Tonight was different. Our little critic had a playdate scheduled and it was over the normal dinner time. So, while I was out and about, I stopped to pick up dinner at a place a few friends of mine frequent often, Italian Village.

Located at the corner of Lehman and Lincoln in the city, this stand-alone establishment has dine-in and takeout service. If needed, there is additional parking in the rear. You can call your order in, but I opted to walk-in and wait, which was less than 10 minutes.

I’ll bet you can guess what our one critic got for dinner tonight! The large cheesesteak hoagie ($8.25) came on a nice fluffy roll. The steak itself was mildly seasoned but came as a good portion size. This meal also included large onion rings ($2.50), battered style.

As for my meal, I got a Ham Roll ($2.75) and a slice of Stuffed Pizza ($3). The ham roll was hard on both ends. Almost like it had been in the oven more than a few times. Only about six inches long, the middle was nice and soft with ham, cheese, and sauce. As a simple item to make, they could get creative and have a few different variations of this roll. But as for this one, had there been some pineapple on there, it would have made up for the hard edges.

The stuffed pizza came with ham, salami, pepperoni, sausage, bacon, ricotta, and mozzarella. This slice was loaded. For $3, this is a deal. The best part was the ricotta throughout. It allowed for the other flavors to come together. I did have to warm it up once I got home, but that was not a big deal.

Our take: Italian Village offers a wide menu ranging from sandwiches to full size dinners. We walked in and placed our order and waited a minimal amount of time. The staff is friendly. The rolls for the sandwiches are big and fluffy. The prices are very affordable.

We give this place ???.
