Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

Our favorite time of the week seems to be Saturday morning breakfast. But where shall we go today? Thanks to a recommendation from a follower, Tim, we headed to the edge of downtown Lebanon. This was a toss up for us. We both had someone recommend this place and someone not recommend this place.

Located at the corner of 5th and Cumberland streets, Cakes by Moraima & Cafe is a breakfast/lunch and coffee shop with an open and inviting layout. They also have a wide selection of sweets to enjoy. Ordering is done at the counter and several tables are spaced throughout.

For our breakfast this morning we got the breakfast burrito w/ sausage ($7.50), French toast with strawberry and banana (missed the price/not listed), and the kid’s scrambled eggs with toast (missed price/not listed). We also got two drinks, caramel latte, and vanilla cappuccino (missed the price/not listed).

The burrito was loaded and came with chips and salsa on the side. The egg and peppers were expected but the addition of mushrooms added a nice flavor. Add a little of the slightly spicy salsa and you will have an enjoyable non-traditional breakfast.

The French toast was fluffy and came with plenty of fruit ($0.50 per fruit added). I was craving a sweet treat this morning and it did not disappoint. Our little critic also enjoyed a few bites of her own. She also enjoyed her eggs, which they added some cheese in the eggs.

Our take: This location makes food fresh upon ordering and quality drinks. The menus are lacking listed prices for several items. The sweet treats look great. The open floor feels spacious, but the ambient noise can get a bit loud. The staff is accommodating and helpful.

We give this place ????.
