The 2022 Richard H. and Karen R. Light Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to Lebanon Valley College junior Jessica Koch.
The scholarship is awarded annually by the Lebanon Valley Conservancy in memory of Richard H. and Karen R. Light. Applications for the scholarship were accepted earlier this year.
The scholarship is given each spring to an outstanding local student who plans to pursue a career in the environmental sciences.
At LVC, Koch is a member of the Tri-Beta Honor Society and the National Society of Leadership and Success, and serves as the treasurer of the Environmental Club.
“She has impressed me with her passionate interest in water quality issues, understanding of environmental concepts, great written communication skills, and mature personality,” said LVC professor Dr. Rebecca Urban in her recommendation of Koch for the scholarship.
Koch had previously completed an internship with the Greater Lebanon Refuse Authority, and she helped to perform a water quality analysis of the Quittapahilla Creek.
“Jessica’s help with our local environment, excellence in coursework and research, and passion for environmental issues made her stand out to our scholarship committee,” said scholarship committee chair Jeanne Boltz in a release.
Koch plans to pursue a job as a water quality specialist or natural resource manager following graduation.
