Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

We got a chance to have a night out without the little critic joining us. Also, this night, our friends, Stay Tuned with Troy & Howie, were celebrating the second anniversary of their podcast.

A celebration event was held at Mt. Gretna Craft Brewery. So, we got a chance to grab a bite and drink while celebrating with our friends.

Located at the corner of Routes 322 & 117 in Campbelltown, MGCB is a brew pub that offers pub food, starters along with their own craft brews and cocktails. They have a few events each week, including trivia, music, and dinner specials.

For tonight’s meal, we had a Buffalo Bleu Po Boy w/fries ($13) with a Pulpster ($7), and a Farmhouse Burger/fries ($17.50) with a Peachy Fashioned ($11.50). The Farmhouse was to come with tater tots, but our server forgot, and we got fries instead. We also opened with a German Pretzel Braid ($11).

The Po Boy comes with small, breaded chicken pieces with buffalo sauce, cheese, lettuce pickles and Alabama white BBQ sauce with bleu cheese crumbles. This sandwich lacked a strong buffalo flavor for me. The white BBQ added a tangy, horseradish flavor. The sandwich also came with a handful of fries.

The Farmhouse burger came with two 4oz patties of their own blend, smoked bacon, beer cheese, grilled onion (although the menu said onion straws), tomato, and fresh greens on a brioche bun. The burger itself was flavorfully seasoned but the fixings didn’t seem to add anything to our bites. I couldn’t taste the bacon. I had to look and see if was there. It was either missing or there wasn’t enough on the burger.

The pretzel braid came out as an appetizer. We were outside sampling spirits from Hidden Still when it first came out. Our friends told us the first one was very burnt, and our server noticed and quickly got a replacement out to us before we got to see. The pretzel comes with beer cheese and hemp mustard. The pretzel was tasty and went well with the hemp mustard.

The Pulpster is a Hazy New England IPA with notes of mimosa, fresh citrus peel, and fruit cocktail with a velvet-like smooth body. As a hazy fan, this is one of the better ones. An unfortunate “problem” though, it goes down smooth!

The Peachy Fashioned, with Hidden Still Red Label, muddled peaches, maple syrup, and brown sugar, was a fair drink that was missing a strong peach flavor. The maple syrup or the brown sugar could be the reason for it.

Our take: MGCB offers a simple menu with their own added flare. Not every creation is a knockout, but they put together plates fresh at time of order. They season and press the burger patties themselves. The craft brews are fine. The seating area is open, and they even have an outdoor bar area.

We give this place ???.
