United Way of Lebanon County recognizes a community member each year with the Leonard Washington Community Service Award to “recognize his life well lived, his steadfast dedication to our community, and his unparalleled dedication to our organization.”
United Way of Lebanon County said the ideal recipient:

- Is committed to making a difference in the community
- Recognizes service as the foundation of the organization and rewards come from giving
- Demonstrates unwavering determination and hard work
- Has provided significant unheralded contributions to our local community
- Dedication to our community, and (Washington’s) unparalleled dedication to our organization
“It is so important we recognize individuals who stand out in our community,” said United Way of Lebanon County board president Andrew Demler in a press release. “United Way of Lebanon County was incredibly fortunate to have Leonard’s support both as a board member and donor for many years.”
“To recognize his life well lived, his steadfast dedication to our community and his unparalleled dedication to our organization, United Way will be awarding the Leonard Washington Community Service Award annually to a deserving member of the Lebanon County community.”
Last year, the inaugural award went to Cornell Wilson, founder of Making a Difference of Lebanon, PA. Nominations for this year’s award are open through Sept. 1.
The award is sponsored by UGI Utilities. To nominate someone for the award, visit United Way of Lebanon County’s website. In addition to the award, a $1,000 donation will be made to the recipient’s nonprofit of choice.
