Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

The critic crew was trying to decide what to do for dinner. Having seen some recent posting online, we decided to head downtown to spot that has recently revamped itself.

Located on the third floor of the Lebanon Farmer’s Market, the Red Headed League Public House is in a spacious setting that has several dining rooms and a bar area. Upon entry you see the open kitchen and wood fired oven.

For this evening’s meal, we chose the bang bang shrimp egg roll appetizer ($11), crab cake entrée ($22), RHL burger ($16) and kids chicken tender ($7) for the little critic.

The eggroll, a rotating special that changes each week, was 2 rolls that are handmade. The filling inside was slim. Could have used more cabbage to fill it out. The shrimp inside had the creamy taste and the bang bang sauce drizzled on top gives the kick.

The crabcake entrée came with lump crab and no filler added and lemon dill tartar sauce. For our two sides we got green beans and mashed potatoes. The whole lump crab was an honest portion. Without the filler, it had some moisture in each bite.

The RHL burger is a ½ pound patty of their own blend topped with candied bacon, mixed greens, tomato, caramelized onion, bistro sauce and smoked gouda. The best bites were with the candied bacon. The seasoned patty gave a rustic flavor that wasn’t overpowering the palette. It was juicy burger that wasn’t falling apart while eating and left little mess.

Our Take: The RHL has an upscale feel for a restaurant in the Valley. As the winner of our Wing Wars season 1, we knew the food was going to be good. The food is plated with presentation in mind. Quality burgers and meals utilizing quality ingredients. They are always running food specials and offer a wood fired pizza night. The cocktail menu has some good choices, we got the apple cider mule and barrel aged Manhattan and loved our drinks.

We give this place ?????.
