The 26th annual New Year’s Eve Bologna Drop will be held in Downtown Lebanon on Saturday, Dec. 31.
The tradition took a year-long virtual break to ring in 2021, but things were back to normal last year as 2022 was commemorated in the most Lebanon way.
This year, to welcome 2023, the Lebanon Bologna Drop will again be held on S. 8th Street between Cumberland and Chestnut streets between 10 p.m. and 12 a.m.
At 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, the bologna will go on public display as it is attached to a Lebanon County-themed disco ball/meat hook designed and constructed by local fabricators E&E Metal Fabrication.
The bologna was processed at Seltzer’s Smokehouse Meats. Following the festivities, it will be donated to the Lebanon Rescue Mission.
D.J. Ryan Downes will provide entertainment throughout the evening.
Parking will be prohibited at the Eighth and Walton parking lot on Dec. 31 from 2:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. The following streets will also be closed beginning at 3 p.m. on Dec. 31 and lasting into the new year:
- 8th Street, Cumberland Street to Chestnut Street
- Walton Street, Gannon Street to Liberty Street
The event is organized by the Lebanon Foundation and the Community of Lebanon Association. Sponsors of the event include the Seltzer’s Smokehouse Meats, Eckert Seamans, Arthur Funk & Sons, E&E Fabrication, and the City of Lebanon.
The Bologna Drop debuted on the night of Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, and ever since then Lebanon has dropped a giant version of the iconic regional delicacy as midnight rolls around.
