Jonestown Borough Council on Tuesday handled routine business including continuing plans for the 12th annual Block Party.

Council unanimously agreed to submit a road closure special event application to PennDOT for the block party from 1 to 10 p.m. May 27. The event will run from 3 to 8 p.m.

Council was also asked to make a decision regarding a CBD distributor that had requested a vendor slot at the block party.

Council members discussed the topic and several expressed concerns that allowing the vendor would show borough support for CBD product use. While no action was taken, council agreed not to allow the vendor.

Council also unanimously agreed to accept the resignation of Gerald Reardon as Jonestown Borough’s emergency management coordinator.

They heard a presentation from Gary Verna of Lebanon County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) offering to assume the role, as Pennsylvania law requires municipalities to have a emergency management coordinator.

He noted that requirements for the role have recently increased, making it more difficult for volunteer coordinators to make the time.

EMA serves as coordinator for Cornwall, South Lebanon, and North Lebanon. Its services, Verna said, are free to the borough.

Council opted against taking action at this time and chose to discuss the topic at its upcoming workshop on March 27.
