The Caring Cupboard has received a $10,000 grant from Bayer Fund to provide fresh fruits and vegetables through this spring.
The Caring Cupboard is a food pantry in Palmyra.
“We know that food is medicine and so many great health benefits can be realized with our ability to provide a consistent offering of whole foods like fruits and vegetables,” said Shila Ulrich, executive director of the Caring Cupboard, in a press release.
“This was an extremely timely gift for us as the needs of our community have hit an all-time high with the number of guests we’re serving each week.”
In the press release announcing the donation, the Caring Cupboard noted that winter and spring months are marked by lower availability of fresh produce.
“We’re proud to be able to provide support to develop programs like The Caring Cupboard that helps combat the critical issue of food insecurity and ultimately helping ensure even more people in our community have access to healthy, nutritious food,” said Al Mitchell, president of Bayer Fund, in the release.
Bayer Fund is the philanthropic arm of Bayer in the U.S. In 2021, Bayer Fund distributed more than $13 million to charitable and nonprofit organizations, with a focus on food and nutrition, STEM, education, and health & wellness.
