Alfred E. Fortna, formerly of Jonestown, where he had lived most of his 92 years, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Londonderry Village, Palmyra. He was the husband of Shirley A. (Boeshore) Fortna. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this past May.

Born in Jonestown on September 12, 1930, he was the son of the late John H. and Tillie R. (Wentling) Fortna.

Alfred graduated from Jonestown High School with the Class of 1948. Al served in the Marines during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Hershey Chocolate Factory as a filler operator for 42 years. Alfred was a member of Jonestown United Methodist Church, where he was an active member. He served as the financial secretary for 40 years, president of the trustee board, active on the building committee, and he was a former member of the Jonestown Ambulance Association. He served on the Jonestown Borough Council for many years. He enjoyed repairing anything to make it useful again, was meticulous with lawn mowing, and constructed a cab for his tractor.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, Donald Fortna, of Jonestown, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph, Edward, and Kenneth Fortna.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Jonestown United Methodist Church, 109 W. Market St., Jonestown. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will be at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2023, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. A funeral procession will form at Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home at 8:45 a.m.
