Bernestine H. “Sis” Hayden, 86, of Jonestown, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023, at Spang Crest Manor. She was the wife of the late Jerry L. “Jeff” Hayden.
Born in Lebanon on August 6, 1936, she was the daughter of the late David K. and Elsie H. Mark Walmer.
Bernestine had worked as a seamstress for the former Heverling Decorators. She also had worked at Hershey Foods for seven years, and she retired from the VA Medical Center after 11 years of service. She was a member of Hill United Church of Christ.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa A., wife of Samuel Henne, of Jonestown; grandchildren, Megan E. (Dylan) Shaffer and Gregory S. Henne; great-grandchildren, Whitney and Wyatt Simniskis; sister, Gladys Witmer, of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Mervin, Bernard, and Carl Walmer; and her sister, Lawrenetta Daub.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 8, 2023, at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown. A viewing will be held on Sunday from 3–5 p.m. and prior to the service on Monday. Interment will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
