Clayton R. “Claytie” George, 82, formerly of Lebanon, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Rosewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Schuylkill Haven. He was the husband of the late Eileen F. Kramer George, who passed away on December 25, 2021.

Born in Bethel Twp. on January 9, 1941, he was the son of the late Geary and Mary Webbert George.

For 32 years, he had worked at the former Steffy Shoes in Avon. He spent many years cutting carpet and tile at Stone Barn Carpet and Weaver’s Flooring, before retiring in 2015. He had been a longtime member of the former Evangelical Christian Church in Lebanon, where he served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. He attended the Lebanon Gospel Center and the God’s Missionary Church in Lebanon. He was the family handyman and enjoyed hard work, and he especially enjoyed helping others.

Claytie is survived by his daughters, Denise E., wife of Jonathan Turnitsa, of Auburn, and Bethann F., wife of David Shoemaker, of Myerstown; brothers, Larry, husband of Sue George, of Hummelstown, and Ronald George, of Lebanon; sister, Betty, wife of Lynn Ebersole, of Lebanon; grandchildren, Jonna (Jon) Reilly, of Lebanon, Chuck (Janelle) Sattizahn, of Shoemakersville, Adam (Mariella) Shoemaker, of Quentin, and Aaron Shoemaker, of Myerstown; and great-grandchildren, Raelyn Reilly, Anna and Amelia Sattizahn, and Bryson Shoemaker.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Lucille George, and brother, Kenneth, husband of Margie George, of Lebanon.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home & Crematory, Jonestown. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Zoar’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.
