Mr. Robert Arthur Bentz, 96, of Manheim, passed away on February 18, 2022, at the VA Medical Center.
He was born on August 6, 1925, to the late Clarence “Pinker” Bentz and Helen Bentz nee Mease in West Lebanon, PA. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. He worked for the Bethlehem Steel concentrator plant, Lebanon, and as an electrician at the Grace mine, Morgantown, and at Hershey Chocolate Co. Bentz served in the Army Medical Corps in World War II and was a member of the US Steelworkers Retirees (SOAR). He lived in Gretna Springs for nearly 35 years. He was an avid fisherman, baker, pool player, Phillies fan, and history buff and traveled widely before his wife’s passing.
He is survived by: daughter Gayle Bentz (Harrisburg); son-in-law Lonnie Ashbrook (Hudson, FL); daughter-in-law Sally Bentz (Manheim); grandson Adam Bentz, husband of Maureen (Annville); great-grandchildren Danica Moyer and Madelynn Moyer (Harrisburg) and Eleanor Bentz (Annville); great-great-grandson Koda Bentz (Harrisburg); siblings Vincent Bentz, husband of Phyllis (Annville) and Ruth Baylor, wife of Donald (Lebanon) and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Genevieve, brothers Clarence Bentz and Donald Bentz, children Karen Ashbrook and Timothy Bentz, and granddaughter Kelly Moyer nee Thierwechter.
A service with military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on March 1, 2022 at 10:30 am.
