On Feb. 25, the Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce, will host an online event, “2021 Economic Outlook.” The program will run from 8:00 – 9:30 a.m. Nationally known speaker Dr. William Dunkelberg, National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Chief Economist, will present the keynote focusing on the state of our economy with a look to the future. Following Dr. Dunkelberg is recently appointed Lebanon Valley College President, Dr. James MacLaren presenting on the importance of college partners for economic development.

Dr. Bill Dunkelberg is the Chief Economist for the National Federation of Independent Business since 1971. Dr. Dunkelberg is a nationally known authority on small business, entrepreneurship, consumer behavior and consumer credit and government policy. He is a past president and a Fellow of the National Association of Business Economists [NABE]. Dr. Dunkelberg has served as a regional judge for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year program for 10 years and as a member of the board of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. James MacLaren became the 19th president of Lebanon Valley College in July of 2020. Previously he served as St. Xavier’s chief academic officer since 2018. Before that, he spent 28 years at Tulane University in New Orleans as an assistant professor of physics, chair of the physics department, and in various administrative roles, including dean of the university’s Newcomb-Tulane College. As a physicist, MacLaren’s work focused on the electronic structure of materials. He has published 150 peer-reviewed articles, reviews, and books and presented 22 papers at national and international conferences. The U.S. Department of Energy recognized his work with an Outstanding Scientific Accomplishment in Metallurgy and Ceramics Award in 1995. As an administrator, he oversaw St. Xavier’s colleges of arts and sciences, management, and nursing and health sciences. He was also responsible for graduate admissions and the school’s libraries.

The event is open to members for $5 and non-members for $20, registration is required.
