It’s no secret that the Lebanon Valley is expanding with signs of growth evident every day. As we see additional hotels and restaurants pop up one can wonder is this a coincidence or part of a larger plan for economic development. What role does Visit Lebanon Valley play in this expansion?

Visit Lebanon Valley is a DMO, Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), which is a nonprofit organization that is tasked with promoting the county as a viable getaway or staycation option for locals and visitors. This two-person team takes the job of promoting the Lebanon Valley very seriously. Funded mostly by local hotel occupancy tax, they sing the praises of the Lebanon Valley every single day to visitors, locals, meeting planners, group leaders and those considering a move to the area.

Visit Lebanon Valley is home to some great projects like the Java Journey, Lebanon Lilly the cow and children’s Story book, “The Adventures of Lebanon Lilly”, History and Architectural Trails, Explore the Outdoors pocket guide, Family Fun Itineraries and so much more. The website is also a powerful tool and guide for those seeking information.

100,000 Annual Visitors Guides are produced and distributed to many spots throughout the Lebanon Valley, but also throughout the state at Welcome Centers, AAA offices, Philadelphia downtown and suburbs, I-95 Welcome Center and more. This guide serves as an effective marketing tool to entice people to visit the Lebanon Valley on their next trip to the area.

No one could have predicted the COVID 19 situation that we are all dealing with. Some of the most special parts of the Lebanon Valley include the charming small town “mom and Pop” businesses that are struggling the most. This reflects our Lebanon Value work ethic and values at the core. We are proud of how our communities have stayed positive and come together to support each other. The Hospitality Industry needs your support more than ever before. This is an important way that everyone can help by supporting our local small businesses.

Visit Lebanon Valley encourages people to explore the outdoors, discover the history and enjoy the culture of the Lebanon Valley, filled with many small towns and simple treasures. Tourism is the engine that can pull our economy out of this crisis, provide more jobs and heighten our profile. We can deliver the most immediate economic impact to our communities and county as a whole through effective marketing, promotions and community support.

The Lebanon Valley is emerging as a new destination with overflow from Hershey and Lancaster. People are looking for the road less traveled, and finding that the Lebanon Valley is exactly where they want to be. The Lebanon Valley is positioned for continued growth and development; but most importantly staying true to our roots, as an agriculturally rich county that shares the fruits of our labor with the community through our farm stands, markets and restaurants.

How can you help? Please support our local restaurants and businesses over major chain stores when possible. When friends and family come to visit this summer, find some fun things to do in the Lebanon Valley first. Look at our Family Fun guide or our Architectural trail, Antiquing trail, or Explore the Outdoors guide for hiking, biking, waterways and wildlife activities. Check out VisitLebanonValley.com for more ideas.
