As part of a statewide effort requiring counties to select new voting systems by the end of next year, a voting system demonstration will be held Monday December 17 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at the Expo Center & Fairgrounds (80 Rocherty Road).

The overall voting system re-selection process was kick-started in April by Acting Secretary of State Robert Torres, and is funded with nearly $14 million in federal funding.

Other events are being held this month in Lackawanna County, Cumberland County, and Bucks County.

The state requirement is that the voting system be certified by the US Election Assistance Commission and the Pennsylvania secretary of state. Only one system has been so far certified under these new standards, but three to five more are expected to be certified in the coming months.

Counties may also use paper ballots or systems that give voters a paper record to verify their vote before casting a ballot.
