Christian Pulisic, who emerged this past week as Lebanon’s newest estate owner and celebrity, confirmed today that he would be leaving Borussia Dortmund this summer to join Chelsea FC in the Premiere League.

Pulisic made the announcement in the form of a tweet that contained images of a very charming letter.

Some of our favorite parts:

  • (y)our world-famous Club: Love the wordplay, wonder how that translated in German
  • The obvious humility and appreciation he feels for his fans and teammates
  • The adorable digital thumbtacks used on the scrapbook style page… This was not a rushed memo tapped out in the Notes app, like so many announcements are these days.

Chelsea FC also confirmed the move this morning.

Chelsea Director Marina Granovskaia noted that,

“Christian has shown his quality during a fantastic spell in Germany and at just 20, we believe he has the potential to become an important Chelsea player for many years to come.”

The Guardian has reported that the transfer fee amounted to $73,000,000 for Chelsea FC to buy out Pulisic’s contract from Borussia Dortmund.

According to the Guardian, Pulisic had declined to sign a second contract with Borussia Dortmund, with the paper quoting the team’s sporting director as saying:

“It was always Christian’s dream to play in the Premier League. That certainly has to do with his American background, and as a result we were unable to extend his contract. Against this background, we have decided to accept an extremely lucrative bid by Chelsea, given the low contract maturity.”

Pulisic has been loaned back to the BD club until this summer.

Although it was previously reported that Pulisic reached new personal terms with Chelsea FC as part of this deal, it is not yet clear how that has impacted his earnings or contract duration.
