Cleona Borough Parks and Recreation is arranging a bus trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show on March 9.
The bus will be departing from Cleona Borough Park at 8:00am. Depending on traffic the trip can take up to two hours, but you should be safely inside the Pennsylvania Convention Center by 10:00am.
The cost of the trip is $55. Adult tickets for the flower show are normally $34-38 depending when you purchase, so you are basically paying $10 per leg of the bus journey – a good value especially if you hate driving on the Schuylkill Expressway.
The bus back to Cleona leaves at 5:00pm with an expected arrival at 6:45pm. Call the Cleona Borough Office at 717-272-7167 to reserve your spot (payment is due by February 15).
The Philadelphia Flower Show is a historic tradition, dating back to 1829. Although not all the exhibits are competitive, many are, ranging from specific plants and bulbs to arrangements and elaborate dioramas (the dioramas are my favorite part).
Best part: You don’t have to drive or park! You can even hop across the street to Reading Terminal Market for some Philly delicacies, like a Termini Brothers cannoli or a DiNic’s roast pork sandwich with broccoli rabe. There are also plenty of food options inside the Flower Show. My biggest advice is to pack some drinks for the bus, beverages inside the venue can be quite pricey.
This year’s theme is “Flower Power” and there are a few additions from past years. One is that the FTD World Cup of Flowers is being hosted on-site during the event. There will also be a model train garden, sponsored by Amtrak, as well as a hanging meadow made up of 18,000 flowers and floral sculptures inspired by artists Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.
