As the winter fades away and spring blooms in Lebanon Valley, consider taking a trip along the newly-mapped Cornwall Heritage Trail.

The Lebanon Valley Conservancy, which has also mapped the rest of the 100-mile Lebanon Heritage Trail, released the Cornwall section of notable landmarks and buildings this March, complete with historical and architectural information.

Prominent points of interest like Miner’s Village and Burd-Coleman are highlighted alongside less-known buildings like Rexmont’s Noggle’s Factory and the late 1800s Fairview Grammar School, now a private home.

The Cornwall section of the trail is especially rich in history, being the site of the Iron Ore Banks and a longtime home of the influential Coleman family. Most can be seen from a car although some sites may offer tours (e.g. the Cornwall Iron Furnace).

Be on the lookout for pamphlets like these, which can be found at the Lebanon County Historical Society (924 Cumberland St.) and Visit Lebanon Valley (31 S 8th St. in the Farmer’s Market).

The Cornwall Heritage Trail is part of the larger Lebanon Trail, which zigzags across the county. Other areas with individual maps include Annville, City of Lebanon, Jonestown, Schaefferstown, Mt. Gretna, Myerstown, and Palmyra.

The Cornwall branch was written and planned by Michael Trump and Sue Wentzel.
