Brandt’s Mill has been put up for sale as a turnkey operation at the price of $1.4 million.

A video produced by Bering Real Estate, which is handling the listing, shows the scope of the 1.04 acre site located at the intersection N. 9th Street and Maple Street (or Routes 72 and 343).

“The Brandt family has poured their heart and soul into this business and have decided it’s time for someone else to take over this successfully run operation,” said listing agent Bill Bering Jr. in an email to LebTown.

Brandt’s Mill as we know it today grew out of a feed mill and saddlery established at that location by Gurney Brandt, who purchased the mill in 1941. The Brandt family is a historic milling family in Lebanon County, with Gurney’s father, David Groh Brandt, having purchased the Annville Mill in 1906. (The Annville Mill stayed in the Brandt family until being sold to Mark Hershey in 1980, and is itself still often referred to as “Brandt’s Mill”.)

Gurney’s son, the late Frederick Brandt, took over the animal feed business in Lebanon until passing the torch to his son, and current owner, Robert Brandt.

Included in the sale are the pet store, feed mill, detached garage, all equipment and vehicles, and the entire pet store inventory. The Brandt’s Mill customer list is also included. (If you were wondering, the vehicle fleet includes a 2017 Kenworth T270 Van, a 2011 Econoline Ford Van, a 2009 Kenworth Truck, and a 1998 Ford Super Duty. See the full list here as a PDF.)

At this point, Brandt’s Mill produces exclusively equine feed using formulas developed by Kentucky Equine Research. According to a 2016 profile of Brandt’s Mill by the Lebanon Daily News (paywall), the Brandt’s equine feed business took off in 1988 when the company partnered with KER, giving the Brandt’s local network access to very high quality (but low cost) feed.
