An annual Cornwall Manor Retirement Community scholarship fund has recognized its two latest recipients.

For the last 28 years, Cornwall Manor’s Ralph L. Weik Memorial Scholarship Fund has provided two of its employees with a financial contribution to their education.

Ralph L. Weik, maintenance worker at the Manor for 27 years, is the namesake of the fund, which began in 1991.

This year’s two recipients, recognized at a reception earlier in the month, are Jesse Cruise and Ashley Belleman, both students native to the area. Cruise, a Lebanon resident who was also recognized in 2017, is a rising junior at Penn State University and works in the Maintenance Department. His mother, Carolyn Cruise, works as a Register Nurse at the Health Center.

Belleman works as a Nursing Assistant in the Health Center and is attending the Lebanon County Career and Technology Center to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She is a Richland resident.

The scholarship will see Belleman and Cruise receive $2,500 for their secondary education.

Over its 28 year run, the fund has provided almost $55,000 in total to employees, their families, and dependents pursuing secondary education. Money for the scholarships is raised through annual gifts and fundraisers from and for Manor residents and employees. The Manor’s Development and Human Resources departments collaborate in preparing the fund, and applications are reviewed by a committee of Manor residents, comprised of retired educators.

The fund currently contains approximately $96,000.
