October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Lebanon County’s Cops For A Cure will welcome it in with a 5K and Pink Mile run at the end of September.

The event, now in its fourth year, is scheduled for Saturday, September 28, at South Hills Park at 1100 South Lincoln Avenue. Participants have the choice of running either the Pink Mile or the 5K, with entry fees of $20 and $25, respectively. Both prices will increase by $5 after September 25th. Special Cops For A Cure t-shirts are also guaranteed to for participants registering by September 25.

On the day of the event, runners can attend a pre-race Zumba dance warmup, hosted by local instructor Lesley Beyer.

Medals will be awarded to the top three runners of each gender and age group, along with cash prizes for the top male and female runners of both runs. Breast cancer survivors will also receive medals recognizing their fight against the disease, which affects approximately 1 in 8 women over the course of a lifetime.

Cops For A Cure, a partnership between the Lebanon Valley Family YMCA and the City of Lebanon Police Department, directs all proceeds from the event toward the Lebanon YMCA’s Pink Complete program. Pink Complete is a lifestyle program free for local breast cancer survivors, and a YMCA membership is not needed to attend.

If you can’t make the races, consider the next Cops For A Cure event: Designer Purse Bingo, hosted by the Lebanon County Fraternal Order of Police and scheduled for Sunday, October 13. It will take place at Eagles Hall, 116 North 8th Street, and the first game (of twenty total) will begin at 1pm. Prizes include Michael Kors, Kate Spade, and Coach purses, along with raffle prizes like wine, jewelry, and baskets.

Tickets to Designer Purse Bingo are currently $20, and will raise to $25 on September 30th. Similar to the runs, part of the proceeds will go towards the Pink Complete program. More information on the games can be found here.
