Palmyra Public Library has kicked off a curbside holds pickup and 2020 summer learning program while coronavirus restrictions are still in place.

Those who are interested in having library items held for curbside pickup should visit palmyra.lclibs.org and sign in with a library card. The library is also accepting calls at 717-838-1347 for requests to hold items during curbside hours.

The program began June 8.

“We have missed seeing everyone and are thrilled to offer physical library materials once again through curbside service,” Chelsea Cope-Weibley, Executive Director of Palmyra Public Library, said. “It’s a completely new way for us to get materials in the hands of our community members, but we can’t wait to see you.”

When arriving to pick up any items, please call the library and the staff will process the items. All items will be brought out to the designated vehicle and photo ID will need to be verified. All library staff will be wearing masks and ask that all visitors wear a mask as well. Any items returned to the library will be quarantined for seven days and no late fees will be applied during the seven day quarantine.

The library’s curbside hours include Monday and Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The library will be open on Saturday’s from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in June and 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in July and August.

Registration and details for the 2020 summer learning program can be found on the library’s website.

The summer program log sheets can be picked up at curbside pickup or downloaded off of the library website. Participants may complete the packet throughout the summer and return it to the library between August 3 and August 20. When packets are returned, prizes may be picked up and all can enter in the large prize drawing. For those completing the program virtually, a new form will be added to the website each week for participants to fill out and submit by August 20.

Imagine Your Story is for children up to 5th grade, and the children can earn a prize for every two weeks completed of the program. They can log their progress online each week.

“We are so grateful to have the technology available to provide all of our summer learning programs virtually,” Cope-Weibley said. “Elementary school students often lose 20% of their school-year gains in reading during the summer. This program keeps students reading during the summer to prevent this learning loss.”

My Magical Quest is offered for children in 5th grade through 9th grade. Participants will receive a prize for every week of the program completed. Participants can log their progress on the activity tickets that are to be picked up at the curbside. The tickets can be returned to the library starting August 3 or through the online submission form.

Anyone who is 16 and over can play reading BINGO using the BINGO card that can be downloaded on the website or picked up at the library. Participants can receive a small prize and one raffle ticket for one row and a small prize and four raffle tickets for blackout. To log BINGO progress, fill out the BINGO sheet and the submission form found on the website when the card is complete.

All of the large prize winners for Imagine Your Story, My Magical Quest and BINGO programs will be contacted on August 21.

The library is offering programs for children up to 5th grade, children in 5th through 9th grade, and adults 16 and over.

The library will also offer virtual performances this summer by Ants on a Log musical group, which is sponsored by Londonderry Village, and Community Bollywood Dance Project, sponsored by UPMC Pinnacle Health. Visit the library’s website for specific dates and times of each event.

Lebanon County Library System’s summer learning program is funded by United Way of Lebanon County and The Bishop Foundation. Further funding for Palmyra Public Library’s program is provided by the Londonderry Village, UPMC Pinnacle Health, Lebanon Federal Credit Union, Rainbow Snow and Ice and Rita’s Italian Ice.
