Cornwall Manor recently recognized its 2020 scholarship recipients for the Ralph L. Weik Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Since 1991, the Weik Scholarship Fund has honored the memory of Ralph L. Weik, a dedicated maintenance employee with 27 years of service. This year is the 29th Anniversary of the Scholarship Fund.

The scholarships are presented to chosen Cornwall Manor employees each year. On Aug. 14, two $2,500 scholarships were given out during a socially-distant reception.

This year’s scholarship winners are Rachael Hocker of Lebanon and Rachel Loose of Myerstown.

Hocker graduated from Lebanon High School in 2019. She currently attends Millersville University as a sophomore dual major in special education and early childhood education. Hocker hopes to continue her schooling to achieve her doctorate degree in education to eventually become an elementary school principal and a school superintendent. Her father, David Spancake, is Cornwall Manor’s Assistant Housekeeping Manager.

Loose graduated from Tulpehocken High School in 2018. She currently attends Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences for nursing and expects to graduate in April 2021. After graduation, she plans to continue her education to achieve a Bachelor of Science nursing degree to eventually work with infants and pediatrics. Her mother, Ann Loose, is the Registered Nurse Assessment Coordinator (RNAC) Supervisor.

The Weik Scholarship Fund has presented more than $60,000 to Cornwall Manor employees, their spouses and dependents for post-secondary education. The money is raised by employees and residents during annual fundraisers and the fund now contains over $172,000.

The selection committee that reviews scholarship applications once a year is made up of Cornwall Manor residents who are retired educators.
