Editor’s Note: Last year, Michael and Nicole Borrell began reviewing Lebanon Valley’s restaurants and eating attractions as the Lebanon Valley Food Critics. Since then, the couple has aimed to offer unbiased reviews of the eating and drinking establishments the Lebanon Valley has to offer. LebTown is pleased to be partnering with LVFC to share these reviews with our readers. Bon appétit!

Welcome to the first season of our highly anticipated Lebanon Valley “Wing Wars.” Eight entrants from four regions of the Valley will compete, bracket style, to be declared the winner of Best Wing in The Valley.

Our judgment will be based upon several factors, including wing sauce/rub flavor, size of wing, how they’re cooked, presentation, and critic impression.

We continue in the North region pitting the Fredericksburg Eagle Hotel against Moose’s LZ. And today we had a special guest with us. We had the guys from Stay Tuned with Troy and Howie plus friends and family of the podcast join us to talk wings, football, and conspiracy theories. We downed a lot of wings tonight!

Located along Main Street in Fredericksburg, the Eagle offers a wing special on Tuesday, AYCE wings for $20. Normal prices for wings are $7/half dozen and $12/dozen. The AYCE special sounds like a great deal and we at LVFC are always up for the challenge. Wings are served in orders of 10 and you can get two wing sauces on each order. This gave us a chance to sample a lot of flavors. And they have a lot of flavors to choose from.

The wings they serve are Bell & Evans and were average size. Throughout the night the wings came out fried right and sauced well. There are no shortages on choices of wing flavors. A few stand outs for us: Bourbon BBQ, Mango Habanero, The Court (salt & vinegar) and Sweet Heat (honey and can-you-handle-it sauce). Teriyaki and Thee FEHO II (mango habanero & ranch) come up short for us. But no matter your palette, you will find plenty of flavors to suit your style.

As wing nights go, this one is a value pick. Wing nights are not easy to find. Half our entrants this season have one. What’s even harder is finding an AYCE special. I didn’t eat all day so I could fully enjoy this night. I was not disappointed.

Our final impression:

  • Average size wing from a local chicken plant.
  • Bountiful wing sauce selections.
  • An amazing deal on wings for their special night.

Be on the lookout as we will head over to the other North region entrant, Moose’s LZ, and see how they compare. After which we will announce the winner.
