When will Target open its Lebanon store? And when will it begin hiring associates to do so?

The short answer: The company’s not yet saying.

Although a Target spokesperson reaffirmed that the chain plans to open its first Target in Lebanon County later this year, the company declined to be more specific about exactly when that would be.

“As we get closer to opening the store, we’ll have more specific details to share – including how the shopping experience will be tailored to serve local guests and the grand opening date,” said spokesperson Anthony Thomas.

Thomas declined to comment on whether the company may already be training associates for its Lebanon store at other Central Pennsylvania locations. Locally, the company already operates stores in Harrisburg, Lititz, and Lancaster.

The store will be sited on the former Kmart property at 1745 Quentin Road. The Minneapolis-based retailer acquired the North Cornwall Township property through a $5 million transaction at the end of June 2021.

The 117,200-square-foot store sits on a 15.35-acre lot, surrounded by large surface parking lots. Target will be using the entire store.

The Kmart closed in early 2020 as part of a nationwide shuttering of the former big box behemoth, which had 2,486 stores at its peak in the 1990s. It was subsequently used as a Spirit Halloween location in fall 2020 and then served as the county’s mass vaccination site in early 2021.

The former Kmart customer service area was transformed into a waiting room for early arrivals and family members of vaccine recipients during early 2021 when the property became a county-run mass vaccination clinic.
