The Quittapahilla Audubon Society has announced its next round of free events open to the public this summer.

Here are some upcoming local activities to consider:

  • Wednesday, July 6. (State Game Lands #156)
    Come out for “Birds, Blooms, and Butterflies” on State Game Lands #156. Meet at 10 a.m. at the “sharp curve” parking lot just past the Miners Village ballfield (Granite & Boyd Streets). Leader Jim Fiorentino (717-269-0675).
  • Sunday, July 31. (Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area)
    Meet 3 p.m. at the visitors’ center within the Middle Creek Wildlife Management area for “Butterflies, Dragonflies, and Their Habitat.” Binoculars recommended to observe the butterflies and dragonflies. Leaders Fritz Heilman (717-273-0487) and Jim Fiorentino (717-269-0675).
  • Tuesday, Aug. 2. (Governor Dick)
    Observe butterflies and other insects at the meadow near the Governor Dick Tower. Meet at 10 a.m. in the Environmental Center parking lot. Leaders Fritz Heilman (717-273-0487) and Jim Fiorentino (717-269-0675).

Group size varies from a half dozen to a baker’s dozen or so, according to publicity chairwoman Ruth Krebs. Typically no registration is needed in advance.
