Summer in Mount Gretna means sundaes at the Jigger Shop, lectures at the Chautauqua, concerts at the Playhouse, and – of course – the Mount Gretna Art Show.

Organizers are currently hard at work planning the 48th annual Mount Gretna Art Show, to be held Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 20-21. The show starts at 9 a.m. both days and ends at 6 p.m. on Saturday and 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The art show will be held rain or shine.

More than 200 exhibitors will be showing (and selling) their wares at the show, including a number of emerging artists.

Admission to the art show is $12 for adults and free for children under 12. Parking is included and will be available at Soldiers Field on Timber Road or at WellSpan Philhaven, where shuttle service will be available to the show.

For handicapped visitors, the Mount Gretna Volunteer Fire Company will provide transportation from lots to the show.

As usual, traffic patterns will be different during the show; namely, Route 117 will be closed during show hours.

“As the pinnacle event of the summer offerings, the outdoor Art Show brings award-winning fine art and craft from a nationwide pool of artists,” said art show director Kerry Royer in a press release.

“We offer gourmet food, music, and entertainment under the trees of Old Chautauqua.”

Vendors for this year’s food court will include Urban Olive, Hershey Bistro, Gosia’s Pierogies, The Oasis, What If… Hershey, and the Hershey Pantry. Mount Gretna Craft Brewery will be serving craft beer and wine in the Hall of Philosophy.

Additionally, local restaurants will be open throughout the show, such as the Jigger Shop, Porch & Pantry, Mount Gretna Pizzeria, Mount Gretna Hide-A-Way, and Timbers Dinner Theatre.

The Kids Art Show will take place both days of the show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Chautauqua Playground through a sponsorship by the Mount Gretna United Methodist Church. Activities will include make-and-take art projects, a scavenger hunt, spin art, and more. Children must be accompanied by an adult to participate.
